B2B CCP (customer connection point)

Postby muddybootson » Mon Sep 16, 2019 2:33 pm

Hello, I'm soon to be hooking up my leisure battery to a solar panel plus the van. Before doing this i read into how to set it up, all fairly simple stuff, but I didn't realise at the time that the van had CCP's. I've read about people connecting the b2b charger to a CCP, but do I still have to link the b2b negative terminal to the van battery negative? Seems a bit weird. I can find loads of info about these CCP's and b2b chargers, but next to nothing on how folk actually linked everything.

Thanks,
Ash

Read the specific instruction of your b2b, there should be wiring diagrams. I guess it's ok to connect negative terminal to any ground point. Choose the closest to where you physically put the b2b, or the most easy to wire.

All negative terminals / ground points will be eventually connected by the van chassis

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately the instructions don't take account of the CCP, and I've read (from ford) that this is where any extra trickery should be connected to in the Transit Custom. I was thinking that a ground point would do for the b2b negative cable, and that I would create a ground point on the chassis for this. At least that's what used to do for standard split charge relays in the past. Thought I'd best bet some advice first though. Thanks

When I fitted the Sterling b2b to my mk8 I wired it up -@+ from starter battery to Sterling then from the sterling to the leisure batteries all my camper electrics earths are all wired back to the batteries so apart from the connection to van battery it is all isolated from the van a bit more work to wire up but not going to interfere with van electrics

I'd always recommend running returns rather than using chassis earths every time.
They use it in manufacturing as it's cheaper than running earth lines back and is good enough for their desired warantyable lifetime but if you plan on keeping it then you save yourself soooo much greef in the future taking everything direct back to the battery negative.

I wire It up but the mate of mine who did the wood work rang sterling and they advised him on how to set it it is a bit confusing I must admit I was expecting it to be plug and play like a old type b2b I’ve had a word with my mate and he cannot remember exactly what he did as it is nearly two years since it was set up

Well mines in.
I fitted straight to battery and seems ok and set itself up....
The only thing I'm confused about is the actual charger needs grounding, I'd have thought it was grounded anyway via neg cables.
Anyway I've done this by connecting it to the neg. bus bar on my fuse block which is connected to the leisure batt then van batt. (Does that make sense or am I blabbering again:)

Cheers for the replys. I haven't actually installed it yet, but t when I do I am just going to earth directly to the chassis, the leisure battery is at the rear of the van and it will save running more cables. Cheers
