finding diagnostic porthole

Postby billytransit » Thu May 14, 2020 9:52 am

Trying to find where to plug in a code reader as I have an engine management light up but after several weeks of hide and seek still cannot find where the code reader attaches. People have advised me where it is but no luck so far.
I have a 1999 ford transit T230 2500 cc TDi. It has twin wheels at the back. Started life as a minibus but converted to camper van.

Cabin fuse box (by the drivers right knee on a RHD) diagnostic port is on the left of the fuse box (under the spare fuses I think)

BEHIND (As in, you have to remove it) the spare fuse holder on the left hand side just under the top row of fuses

We have found one on ebay that will fit a 16 pin connector and read and reset codes, we hope!

compatible code readers for my 1999 transit

Postby billytransit » Sun May 24, 2020 1:45 pm

Finally found the missing diagnostic connection in my van. Have a bought an OBD2 code reader 16 pin. Fits perfectly but says 'failing to connect'. Partially boots up and then get that message, definately plugged in properly and engine on. Is this the right code reader? Any advice greatly appreciated.

Yes, pictures would help... it doesn't sound like standard parts.

And reading through your previous messages - its the wrong code reader. You need a lucas laser 2000 or FDS2000 (the dealer equipment). Some people have reported success with a modified ELM327 and forscan software
