Mk)8 minibus conversion.

Postby JamesHow » Tue May 11, 2021 7:19 am

Hi just brought a mk8 15 seater minibus for converting.

Not a full conversion but a day van conversion with the plastics remaining.

Do I need to insulate behind the plastics?

Should I paint the underside as transits are prone to rust?

Many more questions to follow.

This is my 2nd conversion after a movano last summer which died at Christmas.

Van is great drives nice - car like really, plenty of power to get over the Yorkshire dales.

Stealing wheel is small! A bit sensitive compared to the master and sprinters I have driven.

Filled up at the garage and read the weight plate 4100kg! Help!! That's not what I thought it was!

Going to have to get it downplayed svtech charge £144.

Doh needs must!

Stripped out the seats today anyone want 3 doubles and 4 singles!!

Floor was grubby so scrubbed it, needs another going over!

What's the box at the rear left with vents in see pic????

Then picked up some 4x2 cls and a sheet if plywood.

I envisioned using the cup holders but there is only one in the right area.
So I used that as middle support and the other one simply rests on the ledge. Seems strong enough - a naked van pics shows there is a large steel beam under it.

Ply went on top with 6 large panhead screws securing.

So I can easily revert it to a van for work duties.

I could cut the middle piece in half for extra manvoverability but 3 more screws.

Loo enclosure and kitchen units to follow. The seat lugs will probably suit champing them down.

Rear aircon I removed mine had the pipes blocked off as it was taking up room in the storage area and making anything in there damp
