2000 Herald single to twin seat

Postby Manchestermatt1986 » Sat Dec 04, 2021 11:17 pm

Hello.

I am brand new to the ford and motorhome community so please go easy. I have tried to search both online and on this site but am struggling for the answers I need.

I have purchased a 2000 Ford Herald which I'm pretty sure us built on a mk5 chassis. It's the 2.5 diesel.

The front can has 2 x single captains chairs however we have a 8 month baby so here's what I'm planning

To change the front single passenger to a double with seat belts for both and try to retain at least a small gap to slip through to the back because the door latches from the inside and is more secure.

My problem is I don't know what to look for. Do the bases all match, will I have a big enough gap, will I get 2 x buckles/belts?

Thanks in advance for any help

Mk5 double seats are still fairly easy to find and bolt straight in although the gap between seats is fairly small.
If you were down South I could have supplied the seat and seatbelts but I'm a bit of a trek from Manchester.

Thanks for the reply.

The cab above has a decent height due to the over cab bed slides back. Do you think I could step through the gap, because I can stand on the seats?

Where abouts down south are you? I have family in Orpington

The gap between the seats is literally only 5 inches, maybe six, just enough to squeeze a can of engine oil in sideways, standing on the seat you could just squeeze a leg at a time through if ya calves aren't bigger than 5 inches

Are there any other options? C
an you purchase folding seats or swivel for the double?
Is there narrower seats from.another van that may work on the transit base?

If you are lucky you might find a seat that swings forward, I had one from a mk 5 and later fitted it to a mercedes camper  or you can get swivels for the later transits that could be made to work with a mk5 seat, or measure up some seats and make em fit, depends on yer diy skills :D

Could you get away with a single seat behind the passenger seat if you get one out of a bus that has the seatbelt on it and bolt it to the floor if you go for a twin they are not as comfortable as a single and as your young one gets older it will be more uncomfortable

I don't think I could put a seat there due to the door into the rear.

Is it possible to me a mk7 seat fit safely or is it major modification?
