Insulation.

Postby almorris » Tue Jan 21, 2025 12:37 pm

Hi all, first post here. I just bought 2017 grand tourneo. My question is is it worth insulating and sound reduction? Is there already some degree done by the manufacturer?

Thanks in advance,

Al.

Of course it is, specially if you plan to do a camper conversion.

Insulation is good not only for noise reduction but to reduce heating/cooling requirements and most important, to avoid or reduce a lot dampness and condensation, specially in your UK climate.

I can feel a big difference from before and after insulating my van and I can literally see the difference if it's a cold and wet day and van has the diesel heater on.

Cheers,

David

A lot of converters go for plastic recycled insulation such as https://www.diy.com/departments/diall-i ... 812_BQ.prd

usually the only "sound dedening" is a few bitumin tiles stuck on to reduce reverb in the panels, i did my tourneo connect in 7mm stick on foil backed neoprene foam, followed by recycled bottle insulation from B&Q, theats petty much how i've done all my campers for years, i put extra bitumin panels on the front doors but that was mainly for the speaker response :D

As Bortaf. 7mm self adhesive closed cell foam, preferably with foil facing. Generic stuff from Ebay. If you look hard enough you can get 10mm, even 15mm. The key is to stop condensation. Stick it onto every square inch of external metal you can get to. Then the plastic wooley stuff before cladding. Don't even try vapour barrier, no need, just ensure ventilation.
