Steering Wheel Spacer For Leg Clearance & MOT?

Postby JRHartley » Mon Mar 10, 2025 9:31 pm

Ive a Mk6 whitch has had a seat swivel fitted, the clearance between the steering wheel & your legs is tight.
If I fitted a spacer to lift the wheel higher that would work, but your hands wont reach the indicator etc stalks so well, would this be an MOT fail?

I dont want to chop down the seat base as it has the battery there, relocating the batt' is not really an option. Thanks

Has it got a hight adjuster you could remove it may need cutting and welding if not can you get a seat that is not as deep should be easier to fit to a swivel base .

No height adjustment, & the seat is not deep.

Only other thought is rally cars have a extended steering wheel if you look at the sports steering wheels that screw onto a adapter boss on the column they fit a extended spacer in between the wheel and the boss only downside is no airbag you can look at something like Demon tweaks they sell steering wheels and race and rally parts.

I’m sure my mk8 steering wheel is smaller diameter then a mk 6 if so and if it will fit that may give a bit more clearance

The above two maybe no help but that’s all I can think of

it’s easy to lower a steering column but difficult to raise it without big modifications to the dash
