Ideas for van build flooring and strength

Postby alianaharry » Thu Jan 01, 2026 12:20 pm

I am new here and enjoy reading about Transit builds and upgrades. I am planning to convert my Ford Transit into a camper van, and one thing I think about is the floor and support structure for heavy gear or tools. Many of you share good ideas about insulation, wood subflooring, and reinforcements, which is very helpful. In my other work, I sometimes look for best concrete estimating services, and that made me think about how important good planning and correct measurements are before starting any build even a van floor. It helps to know what materials and weight support are needed so the project is strong and safe. Does anyone have tips for strong floor setups, waterproofing, or load distribution in a Transit? I want to build something that lasts for many trips. Thanks for sharing!

I use my van all year round marshalling on car rallies and built 6 so far and I have never used under floor insulation for the thickness of the floor I’ve used what came with the van but used rubber mat flooring due to mud and dust that gets in the van for night time I use 4 rubber backed carpets.
For the roof and sides of the I’ve used the stick on anti vibration pads and then dodo mat insulation and carpeted the wall and roof panels.
