Hi I was looking to join a camping club,
I have looked at a few,but they seem to be a bit posh,my van is a G reg that I am not ashamed of,
I wouldn't want a £50 grand motor home,its whatever you are happy with I suppose.
I was in a camping club when I had my trailer tent,which wasn't new,
But as with everything some people tend to look down on you,if they have better gear than you.
I am in the north west,so if anyone has any suggestions I would be grateful thanks,
I am more intrested in what are the best sites [near a pub] So have been told to join a club

Hi i cant really help with your question but i know what you mean there are so many bigheads in general out there ive been to a few campsites that i thought my old L reg transit was looked down on im in the process of upgrading to a T reg van but the only reason im doing this is because my old van was suffering alot from rust and mechanical problems it wasn't a viable fix.But like you said we cant all afford or want 50 grand campers i think the new ones in away take away the true camping aspect as there better than houses,i bought a motorhome magazine and was annoyed it was all about new campers and motorhomes i was considering writting to the mag and ask why dont they put a piece in each month regarding older campers.Anyway i hope you find a club that suits your needs and if your happy with your camper b**ls to everyone else thats what i say.

why don't you both join the classic camper club. all motors are dated from 1989 backwards. you won't get anyone looking down on you. membership cost £21 per year plenty of weekend camps a year including some trips abroard. plenty of like minded folk to help with problems you may have. i've been a member since 2001 and made many frieds there. give it a try for one year, what can you loose.

The family and I just got back from 10 days in Scotland, one night we had to stay on a Caravan Club site 'cos there was no where else nearby and it was getting late and grinchy for the baby F**k me when they saw us pull up in a Diamond white and rust N reg transit I swear they crossed themselves and ran for cover We were the scummiest van on site by a million miles but probably also the happiest people there I reckon on that site alone there was at least 8 million quids worth of motor homes and caravans parked up... add us in and it jumps to £8,000,500 What really gets me is there was a stunning sunset over a beautiful bit of coastline, mountains in the background and every single person on that site was in their van watching the f*cking telly...... now whats that about??

Hi i totally agree with you but sadly this is how our country has become,ive been on a campsite in scotland they park all the newer vans at the front put us as far to the back as they could get us,it's gone beyond camping for some now alot of people dont want to rough it they want something better than there home.But just think where you can get with your transit you can manage most small roads they have to go the non scenic main roads because there just to big and also worried about a scratch, i think we do it the right way and by far a cheaper way there just bigheaded rich fools and most are to snobby to even pass the time of day.

Thanks guys,I have just got back from the Yorkshire,dales,then Cumbria,then the south lake.It was supposed to be a few days,it turned into five.The van was spot on,some of the hills brought it down to first gear,
Some of the sites we stayed on were fine,others were a bit upmarket.
We actually stayed in a 5 star site on lake Windermere,they did put us next to the toilet block,[wonder why
There were hundreds of boats parked outside empty static vans everywhere on the site.
I parked outside and my wife went to reception,to book two nights for a motorhome,
I dont think two people from Liverpool in a Transit is what they imagined they were booking in
Next week it is.,somewhere in Wales we are going to follow the sun,

My son says buy a newer one,I dont understand him ,I am happy with the one I have.
My plan it to slowly turn it into exactly what I want.
It passed the mot last week,it just needed a weld on the front cross member,so happy days.

I joined the Caravan Club http://www.caravanclub.co.uk/ for one reason only, they have a network of sites called CL's (Certified Locations) which can consist of simply a field which you can pitch in and have very few amenities and therefore are not popular with families and the "home from home" crew.

I stay on one during the week while I'm at work, £4 a night, it's got a water tap, a toilet disposal and nothing else (not even TV coverage ) absolutely fantastic. They are usually only licensed for 2-5 vans so you get a fair bit of space (unlike the regular sites)

Have a look, you may be surprised.

thanks for that Rob,I have just joined the ccc,
I dont need all the facilities on most sites,as long as we can take the dog,and there are some walks [and a pub nearby]
that will do us.
Tomorrow its off to Wales,mainly around the Anglesey area,but we have no set route,just take it as it comes.
