1988 100 Camper Van with Leaking Heater?

Postby Luidog » Tue Aug 04, 2009 6:40 pm

I just got me an old 1988 100 series Transit Campervan with the 2.0L Petrol Pinto Engine

All is fine but after 20 minutes or so the heater blurts out about half a pint of hot water into the cab?

When its finished blurting, thats it for the rest of the journey and the same again on the next journey.

I keep having to fill the cooling system but cannot fathom why it would just displace (blurt) this volume of liquid and then no more?

If it was a leaking matrix I would of thought it would be constant?

The water actaully comes out of the black distribution box in the cab that the air comes out of.

I have temporarily bypassed the system as the carpets etc were sodden.

Any help would be greatly received as winter is on its way and its bloody cold without a heater??

Sounds like the previous owner has been using Radweld.
Horrible stuff clogs up the pipes to the matrix and is a bitch to clear out.
I've spent a whole afternoon with a wire coathanger digging the sh!t out of an old LDV.
Make sure you use a flush in the cooling system when you fit a replacement matrix.
Good luck
Where would ya be without a can of W.D?
