I know it seems a simple question but what oil do you recommend for a 1987 2.5 diesel no turbo ?, 15/40 semi oil ?, the Haynes book says 5/50 up to 10/30, Is a cheap 20/50 too heavy, I understand it needs to be rated 'SG' or higher too, any simple answers ?

You might get a some replies if you post this in the technical section - this bit is all about campervans!

Sorry, but the engine is in my Mk3 1987 2.5 diesel non turbo campervan, I thought someone using this section may know or willing to say what oil they use.

5w30 semi-synthetic is what you want to put in it. Wouldn't touch 20w50 let alone a cheap one.
