Installing my microwave.

Postby ajpmsport » Wed Oct 10, 2012 11:09 pm

Hi, i would like to put my 12 volt microwave back in the van, high up on a shelf (when its made) Is there any reason why i can`t take the negative side and earth to the side of the van high up, rather than run an earth cable down the side of the van and earth it down low. (The batteries will be directly below .)

Image

I have made a removable access panel, this is where the microwave is going to sit on a shelf. I made it possible to have access to the lower panel at the floor where the batteries will be going.

I hope this makes sense, :!: THANKS

you could earth it to the body.... but for the power the microwave will be pulling you'll be better off running a wire down... especially when the batteries are right below

how many watts is your mircowave ?

Not a fan of high level because of safety/scalding etc

Would choose fused direct wiring in your instance though..

As the van evolves and the sides and everything else gets done if i have space it will go lower. I quiet agree about the high level, just another dilema with making a decision. The van is sort of cut in half by the second row of seats, they take up alot of room really. Its that age old situation of transporting kids having seats that fold flat and still retaining seat belts. :?

750watts at 12volts = 62.5amps.... use nice thick cable for that... something like starter motor cable :)

Just noticed my van in the picture below of how it used to be as a (Jarvis) rail van. At the bottom is the heated hand wash, above this a control box with all the switches, then a hot water boiler. Which at the time had the hot water tap in reaching distance from the kids in the booster seat next to it , so when they were in the van i never switched it on, then the microwave at high level ! I did use it and found it to be ok i guess, just for pies and pizzas ect. All the healthy stuff.

For the load required wire it directly to the battery
