Campervan Uphosltery recommendations please.

Postby paulrichardson » Sun Aug 12, 2012 7:38 pm

Hi Guys,

I'm at the stage in my conversion where I am looking for Foam and upholstery for the seats/beds.

Has anyone had really good service from a reasonably priced supplier?

My foam is very easy, just four rectangles, so I'm hoping it won't be too expensive.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Regards,

Paul

Hi Paul, the best way I found, when my camper needed new foam,
was to go to a caravan breakers,
we bought a full set of seats ,that didn't take to long to alter to fit.
previously we bought material and recovered the old seats ,
These caravan ones are a lot thicker foam and do the job.
It was a lot cheaper than buying foam and material to recover it.

I know of plenty in West Yorkshire, around £200 for covering front seats and cushions to match, the rear cushions cost around £100 extra if you don't have them.

The best we found and cheapest was to look on eBay at "the memory foam warehouse" and we bought 2 single mattresses and cut them to give us seats and backs. We now sleep on 4" thick memory foam. Best nights sleep ever. The foam was only £88.
Hope this helps. Let me know if you can't find it and I will forward you the link.

I think that what deters caravan breakers is that these days they are all made of GRP and once the guts have been stripped out of them, you can't give em away!
Few years ago, you could strip the ally off em and weigh it in.
I recently saw an empty rolling shell go for 99p on Ebay (no joke) as it was only useful as an ugly shed somewhere.
Even if you take the body off for a trailor, you still have to dispose of the old GRP somewhere.
Not really a viable business proposition unless you have acres and acres of land to store all the old shells.
If I was going to start a caravan interior business, I'd do the boot sales and buy there to sell on. I bought a perfect Full hob and sink unit in stainless for 8 quid and a brand new boxed unused thetford porta potti for 35 quid.
I could easily have sold these straight on via Ebay and pocketed the difference, but I needed them for my conversion.

AS EVERY BODY SAYS BETTER OFF BUYING FROM CARAVAN BREAKER DEFINITELY CHEAPER I WAS QUOTED AROUND £180 FOR AN 8X4 SHEET OF FOAM.
MANAGED TO GET CARAVAN CUSHIONS FROM A CARAVAN £20. THE DOWN SIDE IS ARE THEY FIRE RETARDENT?
WHY NOT TRY E-BAY OR GUMTREE.CARAVAN SECTION
MY PROBLEM NOW IS THAT I HAVE LOADS OF FOAM BUT NOT SURE WHAT HEIGHT AND DEPTH WOULD BE BEST TO MAKE UP 6ft BED. TWO SECTION WITH A SECTION FILL IN
I WILL PUT A NEW POST ON FOR HELP.................GOOD LUCK BRUCE

across our van is 3 x 22" sections. but to allow the bed to flip over the flip bit has to be 21". The cushions in ours are 2 x 22" and 2 x 11" which sit on the backs. these fit just under the windows.
hope this helps.
