caravan fridges - voltage use q's

Postby GavSuz » Sat Nov 03, 2012 8:48 pm

wanting to get a fridge for the horsebox for when at weekend or longer shows

seen the fridges from caravans - can they be run on just 12v ? or do they have to be run on gas ?

or would it be easier getting a small cheap 240v fridge and using a power inverter ?

3 way Caravan fridges can only be used at 12 volt when the engine is running. Running a 240v fridge through an inverter would also quickly kill a battery. The gas is the best option for a weekend

Our caravan fridge instructions say that it should only be used on 12volts whilst driving to your destination.. it says it is just to pre-cool it before connecting to gas or 240 v and that it will just run costantly if left on 12v as it bypasses the thermostat.

So bascally it would probably kill your battery and all of the contents would be frozen.

I'm not saying ALL caravan fridges are the same but that's what its says about ours

i got this one years ago, 12/24 v and will freeze, best get a compressure type.
it only uses 33w on full wack and they do not run all the time.

try looking about and do not get an cooler type (yes are cheaper) but wipe out batts.
