Starting a conversion - advice please!

Postby MrChalk » Mon Oct 29, 2012 12:30 pm

Hi all

I am just starting my conversion and am after some advice. Any help would be greatly appreciated. There is a link to the photos below:

Firstly, about halfway down the driver's side of the load area there is a disconnected wiring loom of some kind. Before I put anything over it I need to know what it does. Any ideas? How do you deal with the issue of getting to wiring like this / wiring to the rear lights and interior load are lights once the van is all carpeted ?

Second, there are three cables under the passenger seat. I assume they are coming from the battery. can I use these to connect a leisure battery?

cheers

The first thing to do is plan what you want in your van and then sketch out a plan of how it will look. Then think of all the hidden stuff such as wiring and piping (gas or water) before putting floors or lining the van.

If you want to have your V5 doc stating it is a camper/motor caravan then look at the thread at the top of the page on what is required for an official conversion. :D

Unfortunately it's not very easy to tell you what the unused wiring is for without being at the van, the wires under the passenger seat are not Ford wiring.

Do you know who owned the van before you?

Is the van an ex network rail van? As I also have the 3 random wires and I think they where for an auxirelly battery? I've put a multi meter on mine and they are not live so I will chase bac and remove unwanted wires as I am converting mine to a camper
