Side-door grab handle

Hi all

I have a camper conversion on a 2007 SWB, and I'd like to add a grab handle to assist entry using the side door. This would attach to the rear face of the door pillar separating the passenger door from the sliding door. These are frequently seen in minibus and disabled conversions, but where can I buy one?

I've searched all over the net, and nothing! Maybe I'm using the wrong words, but I've tried everything I can think of.

Any suggestions?

hi rick, not too hard to make a handle up. i attached one to the pillar as you described and fitted the electric step switch to it as well. when i made the gas locker i incorperated a grab handle on it as well. pics added. hope it helps.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll try a local scrapyard. I'm on the Isle of Wight - so not many to choose from here!

Andy - yours is rather heavier-duty than I need, just looking for something smaller on the door pillar. I might end up using the same handle as above the front doors - probably big enough.

Slightly changing subject - I see you've got a rotating driver's seat, how did you deal with the handbrake problem? I've got a rotator plate I can fit, but of course the standard H/B's in the way. I've read most of the stuff, but I'm still not sure the best way to deal with it.

That doesn't work on my model (2007). The bracket itself is higher than the base of the seat so is in the way regardless of the position of the lever.

Maybe Andy's is an earlier model, I'm not sure how the handbrake is configured on pre-2006 vans.

On the later ones, AFAICT, you either have to lower the bracket, move it to the right (as per the Ford campervan chassis), or fit electric.

hi rick sorry for not posting sooner but i was trying to find out how to link to a previous post where i covered the way i did it and posted photos. needlessto say i failed can someone tell me how to post a link to a previous topic...
anyway i lowered my handbrake to the floor and inclined the bracket by about 10deg away from the seat. i can rotate my seat with the handbrake applied. the only part that can brush the hb lever is the seat slide bar and that can be lifted as you turn the seat. there is a fairly lengthy thread on the topic and i posted on the end of it with photos. have another search
