Insulation?

What type of material is best for insulation and soundproofing? I have been searching posts but not coming up with much. A local guy sells this-

Looks ok to me, if it's what they use in conversions it must work.

If they are local to you maybe vist and have a look and if you like what you see the 'kit' may be a bit cheaper collected?

personally i think youd struggle to beat kingspan/celotex for sound and heat retaining values mate

Ive been considering celotex. W£ill pop into a builders yard and get a quote this week......3-4 sheets should cover a SWB low roof I reacon

On my mk6 semi hi I used 2 sheets of 50mm and 1 x 25mm for the sides and 2 rolls of the foil insulation for the roof and the spare foil I used for blanking out the front windows.

i recommend depron, sell ya a box of white depron------------ 40 sheets 3mm x 1000mm x 700mm or a box of 20 sheets 6mm x 1000mm x 700mm for 75 shekels each delivered, this is genuine stuff and not the crap on ebay etc.

i would sugggest,, the roof is where you need the higher U values of celorex as heat rises directly upwards

me mates worked at celotex hadleigh years ago, thought they were tough guys handling the stuff no masks etc. they're all f*** now with health issues, my other mate was a sixth former A level twat and actually did the formulation of the chemicals for the different celotexes and he;s best described as leukemic now or maybe it's just ME?

for the walls i used rockwool and for the roof i used flocking that is used in duvets , makes my dayvan warm

I built a full camper in my van. To insulate I used regular loft insulation which can be picked up cheaply (£20 a roll in Wickes) It's nowhere near as nasty as the old stuff to use and handle. It's super warm. The advantage of this is it can be pushed into nooks and crannies! Celotex is not much good for this and if your not careful it squeaks like mad!

Transit van LWB High top
I used Celotex, mainly because I acquired it from work for nout but U values are on top.
50 mm all over roof and and down sides stuck it to roof and sides with expansion foam, propped until set, all gaps between boards and posts, ribs ect with foam too.
shaved all foam to flatness with boards.
2` by 1` Planed timber batten to ribs fixed with self drilling tappers to take 6mm plywood, all wiring installed b4 boards, covered with Grey interior carpet.
2 Mistakes that foam dropped down to seat belt mech and clogged the lot: and rear lights but they were ok.
wheel arch`s boxed in and holes drilled and foam squirted in side.
Roof lining over driver: holes drilled and foam filled in various places to fill and covered with lining to follow with overhead box.
Floor was stripped to metal, primed, painted and original boards back down followed with extruded polystyrene (same as under floor heating boards)
glued and covered with 6mm plywood, to follow was that laminate flooring underlay (the thin white stuff but with plastic backing) and carpet.
I didn't want anything that would hold water, dampness.
I put them £1 throwaway humidifiers in van, one at front and one in rear.
I have noticed now the colder weather is calling the window get saturated and yet to cure that. maybe from a charger always plugged in to run a made up trickle charge to van battery, warm air in van, cold night time ect, I always leave window down a inch.
I am still working on van.
some say Celotex is dangerous, well if that's the case where the correct PPE on installation, once covered your not gonna see it again, after all I guess most of the mechanics on here work in workshops with Asbestos roofs exposed, but untouched its safe environment.

my brother used polystyrene panels on hi varandah lower walls and the difference it made was really noticeable, why not use the thick 'boards' of it to insulate the van wall cavities, its only dangerous when burning.
