yes or no = polystyrene 4 insulasion ??

any one got any good or bad points about using polystyrene for insulation in a van ??
i have more than enough to fit out my transit, all sheets are 2 inches thick.

also what would you recommend using to stick it to the van ?? or would just putting it behind the ply trim be oik ?

I used Jablite insulation panels and stuck them with solvent free instant grab adhesive

Unless you are on a mega tight budget and not going camping in cold weather then I would bin it and use Kingspan instead for insulation its much better than the same thickness polystyrene, if you cut the sheets to fit tightly ply lining should hold it in place, you also need to think about a moisture barrier to stop condensation forming on the inside of the van behind the insulation.

doesn't both kinkspan and polystyrene work by trapping air in lightweight bulky materials as still air is a poor conductor of heat ?
so there can't be much difference can there ?

On my old mk6 rip, l used to have a big problem with condensation which used to make my tools rusty never mind the van.
On my mk7 l insulated all the panels plus the roof and then covered the whole lot with 6mm ply . Problem solved

Roof of my van is fibreglass, insulated with white polystyrene sheets.. Sides are insulated with loft insulation. In england, van was always warm during winter (as long as you cover the front windows/door windows from inside or outside).

In portugal, van is warm in winter and cool in summer. Jobs a goodun.

kingspan is foil coated to reflect back out over heating inside by the summer months but maintains the best insulation created inside

Kingspan has better U values than polystyrene per same thickness ,,, though polystyrene will do,,, rockwool is a mad idea as it traps moisture and will rot the van like fook .

This stuff is the bollocks. It's 30mm thick but is the equivalent of 210mm, that's 8 1/2'', of rock wool!. It is expensive though but if you are after bloody good insulation, and want to save space this is the stuff to go for.

ok thinking outside of the box a bit ,,,, what about useing waxoyl to stop the damp/condensation build up then use the polystyrene as insulation ??
