My new mk6 camper conversion

Hello,

I've got my new mk6 and have cleaned the back out ..

Unfortunately it is about 2" narrower than my old dead Renualt and about 2" shorter ! so I will have to redesign the layout I want.

I'll post more pics when I've got the bed in !

SWB is a bit lacking in space, but the medium roof is great for headroom!
Get all that manky ply out and get the waxoyl copiously applied too, you'll be glad you did.
Is that a 75 or a 100ps?

it's a 100ps ! and yes a SWB is not ideal but as my other half will be using it during the week to travel to work it seemed like a good Idea ! ( and I can stand up without touching the roof !)
I have had everything in today to see if it fits and I think it will be fine maybe a little cosy ! I've had to saw the end off my bed but as it rests on the wheel arch I think it will be ok ! during the day it will be a settee and then will make up into a double bed.
I'll take some photos later when my daughter comes back with my camera !

Best mod you can do is remove the bulkhead and fit a single seat so you can walk through into the back

We will need three seats most of the time unfortunately.

How easy is it to put in new widows ? I'm a dab hand at wood work but I'm a bit scared to cut holes in the side of the van !

Mainly got to think what window you want and that effects how you mount it.

You could fit a single seat in the back of the van

For bonded windows all you have to do is cut the hole out (the markings are there already) then get a windscreen fitter to stick the glass on

Great for headroom Unless you are TALL. I'm hideously tall at 6'4 (not) and can't stand up in them, or any other medium/standard high roof van, only the extra high ones I can. Especially when you figure that campers have the floor insulation & flooing which is 1-2 in total, headlining which can (depending how it's done) take the roof down 1-2 in and if you are wearing shoes that's an inch of heel/sole.

So most camper conversions on this model of transit I nearly hit my shouders and can see out the skylight

Of course if one isn't as tall, it's great. I have the same problem in all caravans.

Thats the very reason I went for a high roof for my conversion, I'm 6'6" tall, and bang my head on most things

I was nervous about cutting the holes but it turned out to be surprisingly easy. Measure twice, cut once, etc!

The only thing I would say is make sure you clean the sides of your van thoroughly after cutting the metal, otherwise lots of metal particles will remain. It's probably obvious to most people on here but I didn't clean mine very carefully and a few days later (after some snow) my van developed a curious rust-coloured rash as all of the metal particles that remained stuck to the paintwork went rusty...

It did all come off though - lots of elbow grease and a pack of Meguiars Clay did the job. Great stuff, can really recommend it.

Progress report . . .

So I have made my silver screens (thanks Breakdown Bker !)




Had a bit of a move round after the first road test ! (when I was in bed other half couldn't get his beer from the cool box under the bed !!!!)



Thought small baskets would look nicer than tesco carrier bags !


There is always someone to watch me work !!


Really looking forward to the summer now - no more tents !!
