MK6 Transit Camper Conversion

Postby rachelemily » Thu Jan 14, 2010 2:52 pm

Hi folks,

Although we are almost at the end of our conversion (we started in August 09) I thought I would still share some pictures of what we've been up to!

Need some advice on curtains round the front windows if anyone has any!

The Van
Image

Cutting the hole in the roof - scarey!
Image

The insulation - perhaps what we found hardest/most boring!!
Image

Insulation and wiring shot!
Image

We had changed the double seat to a single in the front at this point
Image

Damp proofing the insulation (also fun!)
Image

Ply lining
Image

One ply lined van!
Image

Carpeting panels going in
Image
Image

Floor insulation
Image

Floor carpet down
Image

Furniture construction (thanks ikea!)
Image

Box at the rear for kite surfing equipment storage
Image

Attaching the cupboard doors
Image

Image

Cutting the whole for the smev
Image

The smev hob and sink is in!

Where we are now

Thanks for all the nice comments

We got our carpet from here: http://www.megavanmats.com/

We found them fairly priced and helpful - they have no minimum order amount which was great for us as we didn't need meters and meters of red carpet! Our local camper conversion place could only supply whole rolls of 10 rolling meters which was A LOT more than we needed and double the price of this guy. He also supplies all the right glue (which is heat resistant up to 70 degrees which may seem excessive but you don't want your carpet falling off in the summer!). They had no red listed in their shop but he sourced some and now seems to still be selling it.

Thanks! :D

We bought this:

from eBay, I think it originally came from bluebird conversions or somewhere like that and is a T4 bed. 3/4 width (113 cm wide) and just over 6ft long.

Fab camper conversion....

Should definitely do a thick red centre-line stripe on the outside starting on the bumper/bonnet and going over the roof and coming down the back of the rear doors to match the one on the inside.... :D

Image

Really good camper you've built there.

How difficult was it to fit Celotex in? Did you stick it on with glue or just cut it into tight shapes?

Great conversion btw, looks very professional 8)

We used glue - lots of it! We mainly evo grip/stick which you can get from b & q and we tried to cut it as tight as possible (however you could never cut it tight enough to stick without glue - especially on the roof, lol!)
It took us about 2 weeks to insulate the van - both of us working every night after work and most of the weekend so it was not a quick job however it's worth it.
