I went threw looking in to all of this and the bitumen matting that can be stuck to the van before insulation is to assist in stopping the drumming, I did not bother to do this and have found the amount of noise suppression with just polystyrene was enough. Thump on the side of the van and you get a real thud sound now
What I did was go to a place that manufactures the stuff and buy what we call sidings, which is the outside edge of a block of foam after the make it. Only cost me $5 a sheet for 1200 x 2m+ a sheet but they can be fairing sizes thickness wise but at least 30mm thick. I then used the water based liquid no more nails and first starting with the section between the pillars and layered it up. On the bottom section I go 80mm in total of thickness. On the roof I go approx 40-50mm.... I then used the can expanding foam just to fill in some of the gaps and holes, I used a mist spray bottle in some areas as it assists the foam to expand and slip in to tight spots - only use a small bit at a time as it expands heaps
