Mk5 conversion - second or auxilliary battery?

All autos had twins as standard, as did vans with factory extras
2024 Ford Transit Custom 300S Active 170ps Auto
2013 Ford Fiesta Van 95ps

Ah, that would explain it. Mine's an auto, while the other person who I checked with has a manual box. His is configured as an auxilliary battery, and is not used as a starter battery.

I'm guessing that the reason to double up on an auto is not because they are any harder to start, but because you can't push start them.

so the two batteries I have must be cos its ex bt and has a diesel heater. would they both be starting batteries or would one just be for the extras?

Most likely both for starting, but have a look at the wiring to check

As above, only checking the wiring will be conclusive, but if it's got a manual box (ex-BT means it will have) then it may well be an auxiliary battery, not a starter.

Take a look at the photo earlier in the thread - if you don't have that extra junction on the starter motor solenoid then it's probably an auxiliary.
