Just got home from another day helping and learning maybe hindering me dad who's been repairing the drivers rear wheel arch. Image

Ive fit the alternator, connected up engine electrics, set tappets, fit new heater hoses, fitted carb ( only temporary coz it needs cleaning ) fitted distributor and turned engine over with no plugs in to build and check oil pressure, 50 lb :) then pulled me hair out trying to time it up in one of them "the only way you'll learn is to do it" moments. Finally got timing somewhere near but the battery was getting flat and the closest battery was on a digger. Image

The tanks off so a gallon can was rigged up on the side of the workshop but then the starter gave up. Quick strip down, years of oil leaking from the rocker boxes had got into starter and gummed everything up

Image

Starter back on to the engine and turning over well then a huge bang as the engine coughed spluttered and stopped. Unburnt petrol had got it exhaust and split rear silencer. Thank god old fella had come to front end of van to operate throttle as his head was under the silencer 2 mins earlier! I don't know weather he would have filled his shorts or chased me down the road :D
Image

just waiting on new plugs and leads, rad and petrol hoses. Air filter box needs painting, prop still needs to be fit so engine can be run properly. Maybe a new coil while we're at it.

Skived work this afternoon. Went and cleaned and fitted brake pipes, cleaned carb, re fit the prop. I don't know if it matters on these vans but before you undo the prop off the back axle remember to mark the side of the flanges with a chisel or punch so the prop and diff line back up as it may be out of balance if not.
The air filter box is v rusty so I've sanded back to bare metal so the finish paint should look good as its the 1st thing any one will see when the bonnets up. Dad has got the wings on and temp screwed in place, bonnet and doors have been put back to check shut and panel lines. Image

When adjusting door hinges we lost a socket into door pillar that had to be retrieved or it could have rattled around driving us mad. Image

Magnet pen and a piece of bailer band.

Did you manage to fit new bushes on the clutch pedal? And if so, where did you get them from?

Hi, the bushes were from motomibil in Germany. A Google search should bring it up. They have lots of parts for classic fords. Could do with getting some more as these were spares for the CI.

Not had a chance to update or do much. Dad has been busy. All of the rot hidden under lots of filler and Shultz had been cut out and repairs finished. With the wings been pattern parts the fit is not great so they have been nipped and tucked and I've had a bash at painting them. The underneath had been part painted where the petrol and water tank fit, the rest will have to wait but can be easily done. I've repaired the air filter and its been painted in empire blue not the propper colour but its what we have left over from the major. ImageImageImageImageImageImage
Battery trays have been repair more photos to follow. ImageImage

More body prep work Saturday and we started rubbing down the pop up roof trying to remove god knows how many years worth of ground in grime, even 80 grit paper took a while to shift it ImageImageImage
