Insulation?

Could somebody tell me the reason for using foil ? I am guessing its used mainly on ceiling in case of moisture but maybe wrong ?

I ifitted that last week in conjunction with celotex on the roof and rockwool on the walls. Slept in the van last weekend and all seemed to work reasonable well considering the temperature outside!

so foil on celotex or other forms of sheet or board material is there to be used by us hairy builders as a vapor barrier and or air seal. its also possible to buy (PIR) celotex boards with out it, they come for use as external render insulation, Google alumasc or weatherby. the foil is only there for a barrier and serves no use as a thermal layer in boards, in all all of the fibre or "bubble " type stuff it is a thermal layer as well as a vapour barrier and there fore make a massive difference to the insulation

when it comes to insulation choices you only have to make two choices to start with


best insulation at all costs and or best insulation for your ethics

if you choose best ins, then we are talking U values thermal bridging and installs done with a better level of equipment and skill sets

choose the ethics and you can ask you 4 year old grandson to install the sheeps wool insulation when you do as its so friendly to use

me personally i am going down the celotex rote for several reasons, one is U values and thermal reasons, and two is its free from work

Transit van LWB High top

I put them £1 throwaway humidifiers in van, one at front and one in rear.
I have noticed now the colder weather is calling the window get saturated and yet to cure that. maybe from a charger always plugged in to run a made up trickle charge to van battery, warm air in van, cold night time ect, I always leave window down a inch.

In the amby after the original roof vents kinda rusted away i fitted a pair of solar vents in their place which are really cool and give a positive ventilation, been up there a few years now and still silent running. sorts out copndensation/mildew etc. and even when me and BJT had a session the windows only got a bit steamy and once he'd calmed down were clear and then he just stank of sweat.
