those units look great, do they come like that or is it a stick on? Have you ever seen a rock and roll bed in the front of a camper? I want to try it as it would free up a lot of space in the main area. Also if you had a 110amp leisure battery what size cable would you use between that and main battery? And does it make a difference if you have 2 X 110 amp leisure batteries to the size of cable needed

The units are hand built, using oak faced plywood. You wouldn't be able to use a rock n roll bed in the front as it slides forward when you convert it and there's not enough room.
As for the leisure battery/batteries, use 60amp cable, with a 60amp fuse between the split charge unit and each battery.

day van = motorhome= standard van.
whats the difference in insurance ?
if its a day van do it have to say it on the v5 ??

im having a hell of a job getting my insurance renewed, as the transit is registered on the v5 as a van.

and i have a seat in the rear with sink unit and cooker.
dont mind getting rid of the cooker sink as i can wash in a bowl.

The best thing to do is to register it as a modified van.
Some insurance companies don't want to know but there are lots out there that will insure it.
Just state the modifications and how it differs from when it was first built and you shouldn't have a problem.

Hi have you ever fitted a rock and roll bed on a rail system if yes do you have any hints and tips.

Also what are your recommendations for sound proofing insulation and carpet.

Thanks for any advice given.

Cheers

Yes, I've fitted a r and r bed on unwin rails a few times. My main tip on this would be to make sure the rails are as straight as possible as they have a tendency to 'crown' and follow the curvature of the van floor. This may make the sliding of the seat a bit snatchy.

As for sound deadening, we use flashband for this. You can get it from b and q for around 30 quid a roll.
For insulation, the spray foam stuff is what we favour, though the foil wrapped bubble wrap, again from b and q is a good alternative and is about 11 quid a roll.
Regarding carpet, get 4 way stretch. Anything less is a pain in the butt when you get to corners and arches. Mega van mats is where we get ours from.
Oh, and use plenty of glue on both surfaces.

Hope this helps but feel free to ask if you need any more tips.

I have been wanting to widen the bed in our camper for a while now as can get another 200mm out of it with some simple mods so looked at getting 2 x rectangular cushions that will replace the existing sofa/bed. I got a quote for 2 x cushions with basic covers. It was £600!!! Could buy another van for that.

Any recommendations for where to look for these?

We use http://baytreeupholstery.com/ for all ours.
Ask for Russell and mention Matt from JAS conversions and I'm sure he'll sort you a WAY better price than that!

Great thanks. If I get a good price I may be able to get a price off you to replace my side windows afterwards!

Hi Mafty.

With the bulkhead removed the front headliner is left floppy what do you use? Also I want to insulate and line the rear roof I can find a ply company that offers the roof ply for a custom van what would you do.

Strange. The headliner should have 5 plastic poppers holding the back edge up. Yours must be missing.
The best way to insulate the roof would be to use the foil bubble wrap.
You can get it at b&q etc. Stick it up with spray adhesive, but make sure to get heat resistant adhesive.
