Ours is a Mk7, but I can adopt the same principle. I was wondering what I was going to do about the small daylight gap at the bottom of the two rear doors when they were shut......that is where my hookup cable will now go!

I was thinking of the cable exiting from the drivers door so I didnt drive off with it still attached, but I think your idea is better. I can always hang a sign "unplug!" on the steering wheel

Just need to wait for the blue hook up plug to arrive now.

Thinking about it, I might also put some extra bit of plastic or something round the cable where it goes under the door, just to make doubly sure it doesn't rub and make the van bodywork live!

On my mk5 in the rear there is a place where i can put my hand down in the arch behind rear wheel and feel a vent in the inner panel of bodywork. Can see said vent from under van . Be a good place to put socket if it has the flap that sorings shut. Wire will easy go thru hole and up into rear of van between the spar things that divide outer skin and inner skin.

Have a look. From rear will be visible as look up towards of inner rear panels or from inside act as if your trying to fish something out of where the inner skin is cut away and the bit that drops down towards ground below van floor level.

I'm converting a MK7 van at the moment and have had the floor out and there are definitely holes in the floor, that should be there (for bolts to be fitted, there were floor fixings (as I'll call them) in place and having removed there are the bolt holes) in the chassis, behind the rear wheel arches, there are also a couple behind the bulkhead. I'm fairly sure you would get cable through it, or drill it out slightly. Personally I'm wondering whether to fill them or not.

I'd suggest they are part of the build and will be on all MK7 transits but take a look.

The problem is having the hook up plug inside the van, and being able to plug the socket from the 240v supply into it without extra holes (commando type size) being made in the van. Hence the idea of running the cable through the gap in the seal in the back doors. If there is a large enough waterproof hole already made in the van that would be easy to pass the 240v commando size socket through, that would be great Is that what you are saying? The only other way I can think of if you don't want a cable shut in a door or no extra holes cut, would be to run your cable from your 3 pin sockets through one of the holes already in the floor and mount the surface mount hook up plug on a bracket fixed to the underside, and slightly a way from the edge of the rear bumper as per a trailer socket. It would get wet and filthy, but it would be easy to get to and plug into.

Sadly our van is still in the garage , so can't look yet.

I'll let you know once we get it back.

Plastuc bag held in olace by rubber band or a suitable cv gaiter be easy to remove and keep the industrial 16amp blue plug/socket dry even if has spring loaded flap

Thanks' robbie. Got me 16amp blue spring loaded top plug.........just need me b***dy van back so I can get it all ready for the spring. Lots to do and its still a blank canvass.......and I haven't got it back yet! Did I mention that already!

Does the 16a socket have a back box like pic above? If so youll want a gland/grommet and wouldnt hurt to mastic the crap out of inside of back part after wires run and connected to blue bit seal it up good leave 8inch of n l e wires less outer sheath. Let it set then put front on . Usually ip65 or better so will have a seal on front part built i ln

Oh and be careful one in pic could be power providing socket or recieving socket. Specify you need one with the male plug inside ie pins not holes!!!
