Personally I'd have booked a MOT station near the DVLA inspection centre and driven it there as it is, if I get pulled I'd just say I'm off to get it MOT'd... I believe the range for a MOT test is 20 miles but you'd be bloody unlucky to get pulled over, even if you were if you explain what's going on you'd have to be the most unlucky person on the planet for anything to come from it all!

But if I'm honest, I'd have just driven it to the inspection centre as it is, without a mot booking lol.

Sheild as well as Adrian Flux will let you insure it while it's still a 'van' initially. Another alternative is to gain an mot & take it to the centre with someone else drivig who is covered to drive other vehicles (eg not the owner and your insurance specifically has to say this, most traders have this as well as many with comp cover).

The down side of the above is that if the driver crashes on the way, it's 3rd party cover only so you won't get paid out to repair your van. But then the chances of crashing on one journey is small and they would be covered legally from a point of view of damage to another car.

measurements of most things but must have seating area with table that converts into bed, wardrobe, sink, cooker all the basics any receipts you may have regarding the gas and electric instalation must have windows either side of seating area a side opening door or rear opening door and so on and a very long letter to them but you can get most of the info from haynes build your own motor caravan

Hi....new to the forum.....I have a Transit Minibus that is currently being converted to a camper van.

I am already getting caught up in the red tape ie...no-one will insure it as a camper (will Shield insure it?)....need to re-register it as a camper etc

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

Thanks

Rob

Aidrian flux are good with camper insurance, they told me that the conversion on my old Tourneo minibus had to be complete within 6 months and no other conditions, yes i had problems with DVLA they said i had to provide all reciepts of the work carried out (which i never kept) and supply several photos some of which must show the reg number, in the end i sold it on with it still a minibus on the log book, but at least i know now if i ever do another one.

Hi Guys,
Just thought I'd let you know how things turned out.
Every insurance company, bar one, including the ones mentioned above, would only insure me for up to 30 days, when in that period, I had to get the bus inspected and changed over to a camper van on the log book.

However, I did find one insurance broker (Insurance choice) who managed to find a company (Highway) who are happy to insure it as a camper, knowing that it's still registered as a minibus, which means I don't have to ever get it inspected. I will though but at least there's no time limit now.

I got it insured TPFT for just £169.00 with a 3000 mile a year limit.
I dealt with a very nice chap called Jason, his number is 0844 5577989, tell him Joe recommended him.

Oh yeah and the bus failed the MOT :( on a headlight bulb :D
