First i would like to thank everyone for the great info.

Im about to convert a trasit LWB 2001 van into a camper, I came across this forum while doing some research on insulation, after reading all the posts it seems the best option would be the double foil bubble wrap stuff, what I would like to ask is after removing all the panels there is obviously insets where windows can be cut, is it best to just insulate the insert sections or cover it all, of course when I re-panel it parts will be squashed where the boards are screwed to the sides.

any advice would be appreciated

cheers

Update: I didnt realise this post would take 3 days to appear so Ive nearly finished the insulation now :) The sliding door is a little more challenging, its the top half where its possible to fit a window, we did consider having a window fitted but as security is high on our priority list we decided to go for a large heki roof light instead.
Not sure if its best to just carpet line the top half or insulate then line, the lining may not fit snug if I have the foil bubble type insulation under it, any thoughts would be appreciated

Very interesting thread.
Would you please post a summary of how you insulated your van when completed.
An update on its performance during 2014 camping season would be good ( including weather conditions ),and I am sure it would be of interest to forum members myself included.
Your home is where you park it!! 8)
Happy camping. :)

Charles

£10 a roll from B&Q and had left overs!

no more ice inside, no condensation, warm as toast - DO IT!

Jamysumm,

Its super easy, no pickys needed. If you look into the bubble wrap stuff, you'll find the cheap stuff is recommended by most diy'ers as you just spray glue on and stick it to it. But I personally have added celutex (kingspan etc) and shredded plastic bottle insulation. You can also get camper van specialist bubble wrap insulation. I have a roll of it leftover from mine. Its from: http://www.campervanconversion.co.uk/

cheers

Hi all ,, first post on this forum , im a construction engineer and we use some insulation , expensive but its equivalent to 6" of roof insulation and its only 25mm thick very flexible , extreme suitable for metal framed boxes, roofs etc , its fire retarded dosn't absorb water its called Thinsulex , i did a boat with this some years ago and it was very expensive but by christ is good stuff , you can glue it place with carpet spray adhesive , tack it , screw ,the only thing its hard to cut with anything except scissors...

Not sure if his self proclaimed title of camper builder by trade is justified but this guy converts this transit.
This is the part of him insulating the van and he swears by it and knocks those who think otherwise

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gAdmwk-W9w8

The first part is of him cutting out and fixing a side window.

Not too sure how many parts there are to watch I never got that far as I got the impression there wasn't much to learn.
