It's just that I've fitted a Renogy DCC50S to my Mk8 with the D+ signal wire (from the charger) connected to a fuse location which is live with the ignition switch ed on, but the engine not running. And everything seems to be working. Have I done the wrong thing?

My only concern with that would be that it could start trying to charge the leisure battery when the ignition is switched on, but the engine isn't running - which could cause problems with starting, or even drain the main battery if you left the ignition on for any length of time without starting the van

That's where the d+ signal comes into play. Using this, the DC-DC charger gets an "OK, now you can charge" message from the vehicle to prevent draining the starter battery. In theory.

I have no problem with all that. My B2B D+ lead is piggybacked to an ignition live in the fusebox, and it works.
But I'm now considering a proper D+. My options seem to be:
Votronic D+ Simulator Pro (£65).
A D+ connection hidden somewhere in the bowels of the battery box.
The possibility of a lead behind the glovebox (if such exists in the Mk8) and voltage sensitive relay, but I'm unsure how to wire it.
