Hi Andy,

we removed all the doors and carpeted them on a couple of tables in the kitchen! I do not advise removing the sliding door on your own - as you can imagine it is H E A V Y!!

the guy we got our carpet from gave us the great advice of using a hairdryer to make the carpet more supple making it much easier to get into the awkward places/shapes.

When carpeting we started from the middle and smoothed outwards...it's quite hard to describe actually! We used LOADS of spray glue, probably too much (about 30 cans :o ) but at least we know it's not gonna fall off!

Well - the van has been on 3 trips now: One to Wales, one locally and one to Devon. Have to say we are very happy with it!

We also got a v nice awning (from ebay of course!) :D

misty wrote:Hi Andy,

It's Paul here. I think the top cab cupboard is my "piece de resistance" In total it must have taken me a bit less than a week to do! but it looks really good. This was also the point where I realised why people tend to use VW's As Transits got more curves on the inside than J-lo! It took a few hours of brainstorming before I came up with a method.
First I glued a few short battens to the roof (to make the curve) and filed in between with 25mm celotex. Then I 've put up a piece of plastic ( the Polyethelene stuff we used for the damp lining) and used double sided tape to stick it to the roof and used a marker to mark the contour of the roof on the plastic. This piece I later used as a damp lining for the top of the cupboard.
This I cut out and transferred onto a piece of 4mm triplex that I found lying around.this was still bendy enough and did the same for the sides, and tried to make it fit.
It took about three triplex templates to get the shape right. I used the side bits to keep the top board in place, and applied plenty of pressure to the top to get it curved. Don't forget to mark on the bottom where your battens are on the roof, as you need them to screw the top onto, with some serious screws. You don't want to get these through the roof! After the fit was done we carpeted the panels and fit them in again.

I'm afraid that there are no photo's in existence of this part of the build, as we never intended to put the building process on the web. I is worth it, albeit very frustrating at times.

I hope this helps

Thanks Paul,
i think i will need to have word with myself and get on with it, so watch out the missus and hope no one comes around on the weekend to ask how am i getting on and that stuff coz i think there might be a answer they dont want, mind they would probably hear my grunting and swearing and decide a brew with her indoors would be the safer option,
so looks like my weekend is taken up then, (and the rest of the week as you know nothing goes to plan on a conversion)
