The trouble with the cheap party tents is they save the money on the metal & its pi** weak.
With a 'strong' one you can do this (it was staked at every upright too  ) VERY windy Billing a few years back.

In that case, maybe you would like to pop along to Cadwell Park on 22nd August, as that's when the MR2s are visiting. ;)

Thanks but no thanks, my days of trawling round to various circuits are over, gladly .
Watching cars racing has about the same appeal as watching paint dry, just noisier.
Have fun

No need for Bertha this weekend at Castle Combe, due to me living in Swindon, so it was a king-size bed this time. :D

On the very upside our driver Jon Winter came 7th and 4th! The team are incredibly happy and this is also considering that Jon's never raced Castle Combe before. The weather was fantastic!

Next stop Lydden Hill, not sure if Joe plans on Bertha making an appearance or not.

Grrrr Trying to source some box section from local steel holders and they have either shut down or treat you like an idiot.
Ok yes ive never actually needed to buy steel before, but you'd think people who sell the stuff would try and be a little bit more patient on the phone to you and keep there local customers happy.
Right of to ebay then!
:x

EDIT:
Found another supplier
Extremely helpful guy (Barry) listened to what I wanted & advised me accordingly.
Even phoned me back with costs etc etc and when I could get what I needed.
Took my order didn't even take a deposit.

Fitted these speakers but if you buy some beware they don't fit straight in!
So I had to redrill a couple of holes to get them to fit.
Sounds great though!

Well I have myself a new job now so I get my weekends back!
So today I started work on the bed and storage area.

First bar test fitting getting ready to weld in.
I may have to add a middle leg depending on how it holds up but that can come later on.
Image

Squaring off the box
Image

Third rail in everything all squared off so now my brother will clean up all the metal and prep it for welding
Image

Ground away alot of the rust on that hole and slapped in some mesh and fibreglass to cover it for now.
Image

F1 qualifying and then some welding!

So I employeed my brother to weld in the rails!
Yes its a gasless welder but when needs must etc etc
Image

I think he did a good enough job welding it in place, thats 20 stone hanging from that!!
Image

A quick trip to B&Q later for some sheets, this will be strengthed with some battening.
Plus I got some white hammerite to coat the rails in.
Image

I actually laid across this with no probs apart from the big gap between the two rails but this will be solved with some strengthening batens plus I still plan to add some middle legs.
I may even get more box section to go lengthways between the rails.
Image

So quite a bit done today having a quick bite to eat then on with some hammerite.

Ok took Bertha to see my Grandad today, he is 70 years old and got stuck straight in helping me cut the battens and screwing everything in place.
His garage was my small workshop when I was doing up scooters and he has a large driveway to do stuff on so here are some more piccies!

Battens strengthing the bed, its rock solid now had two of us on it no worries
Image

Got an old linen box (ottoman) out of the house and screwed that to the floor for some storage.
Put a rear panel up as well for privacy.
Image

The back panel in place eventually ill bulkhead the front so stuff in the load bay cant come through.
Image

The bulkhead will also stop the mattress from moving as well.
Image

Didnt get everything I wanted to do today as I still have the new aerial to fit but I have done enough for today. time to put my feet up maybe ill go get some beer first he he.

I'l be keeping an eye on this one, more of a mk6 fan but you've done things a bit similar as I have.

I have 3 large rolls of the thick insulation, the fibreglass stuff thats wrapped in foil you cut to size, I've used the bubble stuff too and was going to use the thick stuff behind the ply on the sides but couldnt be assed in the end, they're yours if you want them, I'm 5 mins from thruxton circuit.

I did notice after putting the bubble foil stuff in that if I parked in the sun it would get like an oven, our puppy at the time nearly fried, at that time I had a half bulkhead, but now I have a curtain to fill the gap, now on the hottest days it stays lovely and cool. Just hope it does as well in the winter at keeping the heat in.

Good luck with the rest of the build, always nice to see an older mk getting a new start in life

Cheers bud thanks for the offer im currently insulated up to the guns.
I do like the mk6 but something about the mk5 i just love and the mk4.
I kind off see Bertha in her retirement now. shes done the hard slog and had god knows how many different drivers through the years and im sure she has seen some sites.
Now its time for her to take it easy and enjoy life.
