Copy of the letter I used may help others.

Dear Sirs,
I am writing to request that my vehicle, registration number *******, is reclassified as a “Motor Caravan”. I am aware of your requirements for the vehicle to fit into the classification of “Motor Caravan”.
Please find a series of photographs enclosed showing details of the vehicle.
1.Front & Rear of Motor Caravan showing registration plate.
2. Interior detail showing seats and table in upright position. Please note the table bracket is permanently and securely fixed to the vehicle body.
3. Bed in sleeping position. Please note that this is made up from seat cushions used for seating during the day. The key elements of the bed base are permanently and securely fixed to the body of the vehicle. The bed is 6 FT 3”’ long.
4. Cooking facilities. The double hob cooker is fuelled by gas and the piping is permanently fixed to the vehicle.
5. Storage cupboards.
Fresh water is stored in a water tank under the sink
I enclose my V5C document with section 7 “Changes to Current Vehicle” completed.
I trust that the enclosed photographs provide you with sufficient evidence to make the amendment to Body Type classification. If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.

Couldn't find anywhere to put a fixed table, so we just use a folding camping table like this-

Stows away behind the front seats.
DVLA seemed happy with it even though it's not fixed. I think what you can get away with depends on the whole conversion. If it's obviously a full permanent conversion, they seem to be a bit more flexible than if it looks like a few bits thrown in the back.

Excellent work,looks fantastic.
Where did you get your mushroom roof vents from and what size.I have lwb mk7 high roof,will be fully insulated,ply lined and carpeted,
but will only be used as camper for odd weekends away,no permanent fixtures apart from the vent as still needed to be used as my van most of the time.

Paul,

these are the roof vents. To be honest they are just about enough, will probably be replacing the front one with a larger Fiamma or MPK one.

Cheers for the info,that vent will suffice for now.Possibly I will upgrade to something larger at a later date if I decide to
convert to something more permanent,meanwhile,I'll post some progress pics when I start to line the van out.
