Leisure battery query!

Postby MadMoo » Wed Jul 11, 2012 3:32 pm

Hi all,
We're going to be installing a leisure battery into our 1999 Mk5 and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations?
What's the best brand / price?
There are so many brands and prices...is it the case of more expensive is the better?
Best place to get them?

Thanks for reading!

Hi everyone!
So we went to a caravan breakers to look for a battery, they only had brand new ones (110ah for about £80).
So we had a look at ebay... we managed to find two that were close to us.

one was a 110ah UK Giant....
the other was a 120ah sealed gel battery (not sure of brand)

in your opinion, which is the better one...I thought that the sealed gel batteries were better...(and it also has th extra 10ah)

Thanks in advance!

read here and make your mind up,

keep away from gel batterys if you are using your van to charge them, gels need to be a slow charge,

Thanks for the link, very informative. I think we'll go with the 'normal' battery!

Have the identical battery fitted in my Duetto. 125ah with four year warranty for £95. I didn't hesitate at that price.....if it goes 'dead' after four years i'll have had my moneys worth.

Been away from UK since July 1st touring through nine countries with battery in regular use but not even managed to drain it!

Hi all,
We've a110aH battery on ebay, just under £52! It's all hooked up via a split charge relay in the engine bay on other side to the starter battery. It's looking good, oh and it works!
We're still currently in the process of converting the van but keep your eyes peeled as we'll be posting up our progress with pics soon!
