Mk 6 2004 - 85 T280 - Leisure Battery Question

Postby Lydian » Wed Aug 22, 2012 8:03 pm

Hi All,

After lots of reading and searching around, I'm posting here to try and get some answers!!!!!!!

I use my van primarily for getting my band gear around, but would like to be able use it for impromptu camping at a weekend. To this end, I'm not going to do a full camper conversion, all I need/want is some electrics in the back, 12v for phone chargers, and some light!

So after reading up, I gather I need a leisure battery, and a split charge relay system to charge the battery. Upon further reading I understand I could fit a battery alongside the original battery under the driver's seat.....So I go and have a look to see the available space....to my surprise there's already another battery there. It appears to be connected, but not directly to the Varta battery. In the back of the van there are two lights already fitted, I assume (hopefully rightfully!) that this 'other' battery is powering the lights and is already coupled to a split charge system.........Sorry for going on!

So, to the question, is there a way of identifying the system in place, I.e. to tell if it's on a split charge system?

If there's other topics that point to this, sorry to bother you, just point me in the right direction!

Thanks Muchly!
