my old camper on google maps

Postby fidget » Tue Aug 28, 2012 11:20 pm

just been talking about my old camper that i had about 8/9 years ago, not a transit, but quite a bit bigger, it was a bedford PJK coach, it sleamp 8 people, had everything you had a home, full electrics, hook up and its own 2.8 kva genny straped underneath, a full sized kitchen sink with hot and cold running water, full pumped shower, fitted cemical toilet (self flushing), a full range cooker with 2 ovens (never used the ovens) 2 fitted tvs, one with games machines the other for normal tv and dvds, full sound system, you name it, and it had it, even a fitted twin tub washing machine, had a 60gall fresh water tank in the boot, and a filter system for the waste water,

i loved it, it was never fast, but with all that on i am not suprised.  but it would take you anywhere you wanted to go, as long as you was not in a hurry.
it was nice to be cruseing down the motorway, and have a mate get up and make the tea, lol
it was not welcomed on very many camping sites due to its size, but that never mattered, it worked out cheeper, with being self contained i just pulled in on a large layby and spent the night there, pull up, turn engine off, flick a switch and your home, magic,

i paid £4,500 for it on ebay in 2000, had her for 3 years, went everywere, the kids loved it, as did my mates on stag nights and boys nights out
at that time i had a business running that was doing very well, so running costs where not an issue, but then in 2003, the business closed,
as it was stored at the business address it had to be moved, so it went home and sat on my drive, this did not go down well with the land lord,
to cut a long story short, things went down hill prity quick after closing the business, so she had to go for storage, i live in luton bedfordshire, and i ended up storing it at the only place i could afford, 300 odd miles away, just outside luton, south devon. lol but at just £10 per month it was worth the trip.

i paid up 10 months worth and left her there, i went down a couple of times to run her and keep all things good in it, the farm i stored it at was run by some gypsy's, who run a breakers yard, they were ok and watched over it while i was not there,

before the 10 months were up, i while walking home one night, got jumped and had my head jumped on, and left in the road in a pool of blood for dead,
wont go into how bad they injured me or how many bones got broken, but it left me with memory problems, simple ccase is, i forgot for 3 years that i had this coach, by which time the yard claimed it, could not argue, they had not heard from me in over 3 years. and to this day i still have not been in touch with them, little point, i know my old coach is still there, but just a shell.

link to the picture on google earth.

really miss her, but could never afford to run it if i still had her.
if you have got this far in ready this, then well done you and thankyou , sorry i have gone on a bit.
as it stands, this is the only picture i can get, others got lost when the computer got stolen
cheers for reading. phill
my advise may not be right, but I like to give my 10p worth, and an answer even if wrong is nice to see.

Things happen for reasons we sometimes should never or couldnt ever know. I cant say your story was easy riding, although very very touching. I hope some magic returned or returns to your world and thank you for the read :)

cheers for the comments, the magic returned a few years ago when i met my now wife. as for the camper/coach, well it was a material item, easy come easy go, have big plans for the transit now, it has been a camper before, untill i riped it all out to use it for work, getting the body work all up to scratch first, then some fancy seats that will convert into beds, plan to remake the rear doors so that they open like a range rovers rear doors. and it grows from there. if i can pull it of, lol

there i go raballing again.  :D
