no ignition lights

Postby FixOnRoadDaily » Wed Aug 29, 2012 3:51 am

hi,

my transit ice cream van engine cuts out occasionally i have no ignition lights ! nothing !
but usually will be back to normal after a 2 minutes.and ignition lights come back on and the engine will then start, :)
- but today i turned engine off breifly and now i have no ignition lights ! the van wont start, :(
been playing new mp3 player at high volume through 12v cigerette lighter all day . could this have drained battery also?

lights and radio still work but NO IGNITION LIGHTS !!! DEAD AS A DODO

also noticed a dodgy burning smell today coming from dashboard - no smoke though :)

question 1) is it just flat battery? going to try jump leads in morning and multimeter.and look for any broken fuses.

q2) could it be serious? fatal for my van?

any more ideas guys, i know im in the right place ! :)

if jump leads dont work in morning then i will need any advice, as i dont know what im doing

sorry, mk5.year 2000,
noticed the black relay in the fuse box in bottom left corner with "image of a key" on the panel looked slightly burned, so changed it still nothing.
also checked the 60a and 80a fuse next to 12v battery.
jump leads = nothing
multimeter reads battery as 12.8v
cant see any loose wires.

i think ive blown a fuse as i drained all power with my new mp3 player at full volume all day... does that make sense?

anyone got any ideas? yea im in birmingham anyway

Probably better to ask in the mk5 section above. Have you traced power up tot he ignition and then to the dash?

PROBLEM SOLVED , dodgy connection coming from ignition barrel, the plastic clip connecting the ignition wires to the main loom had slightly melted (the red wire mainly)! gonna bypass the clip and join the red wires together with spade terminals or something else i can disconnect in an emergency ! not bad considering i dont know what im doing. yea ak your right you know exactly what im talkin about !!! nice1 ak !
