Ist fit out zillions of questions

Postby Homersaysdoh » Tue Oct 16, 2012 10:04 pm

Hi complete newbie, bought a 1997 auto camper which was in a right state, I've had all the mechanical work done and am about to start the fun part of fitting out and have a zillion questions, so will start with a few...
I need 240v and 12v putting in, I guess most of you hide this behind the ply or in the floor? Can lights and sockets run off 12v and switch to 240v when available via a panel? I have a gas connector with a valve/switch in a little hatch, it appears to be like a nipple type fitting, is there a snap on type fitting to connect gas bottle to this via a flexi? Loads more as I move forward, sorry to be a thicko, hope I can help others as I am knowledgable on other things! Thanks

1. Pre Run all cables before ply lining, if it is already lined you could fit the cables over the ply but it is obviously not as neat.
2. 12v lights and 12v sockets can run of 240v mains - you need to use a device called a PMS 4 - Power Management System - widely available.
3. Yes a quick release 8mm fitting or coupler should be available from any decent caravan shop - use the orange hose and a suitable regulator which will fit onto your bottle. Again a good caravan shop can advise or a calor gas centre.

If it is a 1997 conversion it would be wise to remove any rubber gas pipes as they decay overtime, and copper is now the norm. Better to spend a few extra quid and be alive. Do use copper to all your appliances, and make sure you have an in line isolation tap or manifold, and only use a small amount of NEW hose to your bottle or instead of hose - use a proper "Gas Tail".

Thanks northern lad, I have taken everything out, there is some rubber pipe so will remove that, I do have a bit of experience of gas, with the electrics I take it this means the 12v stuff will work off 2;0 then with the right kit but not the other way round, can't believe I'm asking this! I'm thinking of how does a 3 way fridge work told you I was a newbie
