the welding finally finished

Postby frank133 » Thu Nov 22, 2012 11:43 pm

About five months ago my van failed the m.o.t.mostly welding and a few minor things,
It has been in my sons workshop ever since, on the ramp off the ramp,he worked on it in fits and starts,
He paid one of his welders to finish the job off, took two days but the lad done a mint job.
Every part of the underneath was attacked with a pry bar, then ground away and plate,ed
To be honest I thought it was time for the scrap yard, this is the result.

rear offside spring hanger and inner sill,

This is the nearside rear wheel arch,it was in a bad way before,

Image

the fuel tank had to come off for this sill to be welded.

this is a complete new inner wing that had to be made up .

There was all sorts of bits to be welded these were the biggest jobs,
At least if I sell this van next summer ,I will know it is right.

One reason for that is he has traced back to METAL as opposed to trying to weld onto RUST!

Again, well done! :D

You are right about chasing back to good metal, some of the small holes were bloody big holes when he started grinding,
I can at least say it hasn't been bodged ,the guy who welded it wouldn't bodge it anyway,he does it right ,or he wont do it,
I know for a fact some of the old welding was done by a local garage, and it was chronic.
I have sprayed the whole underneath today with under seal, looks like it just came out of the factory
next job wheels on, off the ramp ,stone chip the bottom panels ,,change windscreen we cracked it taking the old wings off.
Then back for mot.
Might even get away for new year in it :)

Nice to see someone making an effort and doing a tidy job. I always cut rot out no point in just plating over it.
