"hill start assist" on all transits?

Postby geg » Sun Nov 25, 2012 10:21 pm

first time for me - first camper, first post on one of these forum thingies. Dare i ask? Be brave...

I've just got a nice new camper on a 140hp transit - bought in france.
I've got a few questions and here's the first:

do all transits have 'hill start assist'?

I thought that all transits had it but mine doesn't seem to!! If it should/could have it, how do i activate mine?

thanks in advance. geg

thanks for swift response!

you've taught me something already - i googled 'etis' and put my vin in, got a long list of 'with', 'without', 'less' items, but i can't see any mention of hill start assist or similar. Its 'date of production', from the etis info, is 25 june 2012.

dunno if it makes any difference, but the vehicle was in 'transit mode' when i picked it up - i had to go to the nearest ford garage, in albi, who (with a few pedal presses) changed it to 'normal mode'. Only later did i think about hsa and whether it should be there...

any further ideas pls?

A 2012 should have it, but it may have been disabled, it can be reset using Fords ids system

it wouldn't make any difference having the handbrake down in the driver step-in area, by the door, would it?

and, being a new vehicle, presumably any Ford dealer should be able to reactivate it? (I'm in belgium for the next couple of months...)

No the handbrake makes no difference, it sounds like a standard Transit Motorhome chassis which has the wide track rear axle and the 16" wheel setup, any Ford dealer can activate the Hill Launch Assist. Did you buy it from the dealer north of Paris - Claire Souily (i think thats the spelling?) , is it a Chausson, or an Italian Rimor / Roller Team / Mclouis ?

it's a new Rimor XGO Dynamic - I bought it from Albi Camping-Cars Puygouzon.

As i said earlier, it was in 'transport mode' when i picked it up, and i had to drive to the local ford garage in albi to get it changed to 'normal mode'. I thought this was a bit weird in itself (that i had to get this done myself rather than the camping-car dealer), and i thought that would sort things out.
Then we went for a jaunt around catalunya for a couple of weeks and i realised (the gradients in the pyrennees helped me to realise..) that there was no hill start/launch which i thought was on all transits.

I did go back to the ford garage in albi but they seemed unsure about whether all transits have it - mentioning that the van had come via italy, as if that would give rise to all things weird!
So now I'm trying to be sure about whether it (HLA) is or isn't standard. I can go to a ford garage in Belgium (where i'll be for the next couple of months), but i don't want to be shrugged off by them just because they didn't sell the vehicle, and i'm feeling a bit like 'johnny foreigner' by now anyway...

Get on a hill with hand brake off and select first, the light will come on.If the light doesnt come on it doesnt have it activated but i can see no reason why it wouldnt be.

i've done 2000km, including some pretty steep hill starts, and the hla light and mechanism hasn't come on yet! There's the little icon of 'a van on a hill' at the bottom of the rev counter but it never lights - not even as the ignition is switched on.

Incidently, - and maybe this is a problem for a separate question? - , i don't see an ESP light (car skidding down the road) come on anywhere at switch-on, and i know it has esp. Nor is there an esp switch anywhere...

but i know the van has esp, cos i've seen it listed in the etis listing...

(unfortunately the etis doesn't mention hla at all, either as a 'with..' or 'without..' entry.)

We are RImor Main dealers, transport mode is easy to switch off, stamp the brake pedal 5 times and then press the hazard warning light switch, it is to preserve battery life and prevents remote locking and radio working etc...

Your XGO was built in Poggibonsi, Sienna Italy , it is a Euro 4 chassis, and will need HLA activating, it is more than likely the 115ps model, I would reccomend blanking off the EGR Valve, and having the EML switched off and having it remapped to 140ps. Will drive ten times better and give you better MPG. Also make sure you check the tracking, thats what the Italian sticker on the rop right hand side of your screen says - you should do it after 1st 1000 km.

Rimor often build on earlier lower spec Chassis's but register them later, we have brought in vehicles built in 2006 and they have been registered in 2010 !! Standard Italian Caravan valley practice.

i could be wrong , but i have hill assist on my van , but never noticed i had it because when i stop i usually put the handbrake on , and as soon as you use the handbrake it cancels out hill assist , hill assist only works when you stop for a while and dont use the handbrake .........again i could be totally mistaken
