thinking of putting a gas fire fire in my transit camper dose it need to be vented through the floor i no this sounds silly but iam sick of cutting holes and getting drafts

Depends on the choice of fire, some have a vertical flue which goes through the roof, some go through the floor. What ever you do install it exactly as per the instructions, paying particular attention to any ventilation requirements.
Also install a Carbon Monoxide detector if you don't have one already
