Ex Welfare bus conversion advice!!

Postby smiggsy » Sat Feb 16, 2013 2:09 pm

Hi all... I'm new to the forum & I'm looking to scrounge a few Ideas for a conversion.
These don't seem to be the most popular machines to use as a base for a camper but this one fell into my lap, along with an old caravan so I'm going to try & make a decent camper from the two. I've been searching for photos online, showing the interiors of any conversions, but I'm struggling to find much?
Could use some inspiration & useful Ideas, if anyone can point me towards any decent images?
Many many thanks guys.

I reckon is what you need to do is sit down and work out what you want from the conversion...ie seating, eating, cooking, sleeping, washing/portaloo, storage etc. then start to pencil in some ideas on some paper. Once you have a design you are happy with, start building.
I doubt there are any set plans for that vehicle.
I just sat down and worked out what I wanted then started to work out where it was all going.

google SketchUp is a simple 3D tool you can use for testing the layout.

Exactly that Northwest2go. I have spent hours on this forum reading through different ways to do things before i started , looking at photos and progress reports to see how people have built thiers. I then layed out what i want with some spare ply, this will also give me the profiles for the shape of the sides of the van and templates for worktops etc. It also gives you the feel of the finished product and anything you want to change, and to first fix the electric and plumbing ect.

Perhaps have a look at the website's for the Self Build Motor Caravanners Club and Camper Van Life, below, for some idea's.

Alternatively, use Google Images for things like "Campervan Interiors" and suchlike.

The book, Travel Van's, by John Speed, is also worth reading, your local library should have (or can get) a copy.
