Travel home walls

Postby bov783 » Thu Dec 19, 2013 9:32 pm

Hi all
My walls in me 1978 travelhome have become damp and de bonded. In a trip back from Inverness when we went over the forth road bridge the walls were visibly ballooning out !!
My point is can anyone recommend a glue to stick 6mm ply to the blue styrene insulation ?
The insulation is stuck solid to the alloy skin but the inner wall has gone.
I think 6mm ply will do for the wall as I can get it from work.
Regards
Phil

Hi Phil,
Just been looking on utube under reparing major water damage in a motorhome, well worth watching over 30 mins long but good with bonding and parts / interior panels. :) Gentleman concerned used a company called oleary to get parts http://www.olearymotorhomes.co.uk I hope the address is ok or google it. Adhesive he used was oleary FC40 bonding glue.
Watch the video I am sure it will help you.
Hope this helps and please post your progress with maybe a How To repair on the forum.
Best of luck,
Regards
Charles

Expanding wood glue does a great job too. Its not a sealant though so if you have a leak, then maybe something like sikaflex 512 would be suitable - only issue is it takes a long time to dry in the UK.

talking about winds i was coming up the a34 from southampton to oxford yesterday late afternoon / early eve and that was a bit of a white knuckle ride some moments , the van is a hightop and was getting blown alot more than normal so much i slowed down to 45/50 still felt i was going to tip over or even change lanes ... what didnt help when you was on a brow of a hill and a big gust of wind blew across ! !st time driven in higher winds with it and its certainly not nice .

Yes can be very scary I drive a hi top most days and never bothers me but motorhome totally different even if a hgv passes you fast it will suck you in then push u away can be nerve racking if your not expecting it I though there was something wrong with my old camper the way it was blowing about on the first journey home but soon came to realise that it's one off the things you have to live with when running a classic lol

Have you thought about air bags?............I had them fitted a few years back to my 1990 Travelhome.............they made a big difference to the handling.
