help needed heater for a camper

Postby zetor4321 » Wed Jan 22, 2014 10:40 pm

Hi all, ive got a swb mk 5 van and i occasionally work away for 1 or 2 nights
I sleep in the van to give security to my equipment.

i want to fit a small gas fired heater which is suitable for use in a van.

i was thinking of something like what is fitted in caravans

i want to keep it as small and compact as possible

any suggestions will be appreciated

any pics and links would be a great help

thanks in advance

I fitted a webasto heater in my LWB Connect, small and compact runs off the vans fuel tank.

like yourself i spend a couple of nights away in my van,and have to say it was a good investment.

How much was the webasto heater and was it difficult to fit??
could it run from a separate fuel tank?

i did think of the super ser type heaters but thought it would give off too many fumes?
is yours vented outside ?

i have an old calor gas type mobile heater but as i say i was worried about fumes and condensation

a picture would be helpful of both types

If you have the luxury of hook up, places lile qvs sell these heater tubes that range in length frim a foot to about 8 foot.
The 3 or 4 foot ones are only 175w, the 8 foot ones only use about 400w...
Fek all if on hook up...
Fit under seats etc..

Just thought this may be an alternative

Hope this helps (Someone)

I use something similar to this:

Mine came out of a 1970's horsebox. Doesn't require a flue, just make sure your have a carbon monoxide detector :)

Unfortunately i don't have access to mains power as i mainly park up in fields etc

i do have a similar heater to the one you linked to but was worried about fumes

has anybody fitted a heater from a caravan the carver type one

they are vented under the caravan so i assume are safe to use all night?

I was also worried about fumes as kids travel with us so fitted a co2 / smoke alarm just incase but i tested it on a trip first before I took kids away run fine no fumes but my motorhome is quite well ventilated not sure I would advise running while sleeping in the back of a van just incase if u want something to run all night wabasto is the way to go just more expensive a bit more work to install
