I dont know answer,,,but on my 89 camper,,still an ambulance on v5 ,but insured as camper I have a chest of drawers
So,i removed two drawers ,cut a hole in floor below, then dropped the gas bottle into home made metal cage below floor--then put the two drawers back in
Result----saves space and the gas is outside[under] the van ---must be safer too

this sounds more like a question for the insurance than the DVLA. On the subject of your V5, the post office now do this at the counter. When I asked for what proof was needed I was told none! You can only change the tax class when you renew your tax.

Im talking about changing the description to 'Motor Caravan'. I dont want to send all my photos etc off, and have the DVLA tell me the Gas bottle needs to be boxed.

really? This is body type then? Not taxation class? I shall ask the PO if they are doing this too, as they have taken a lot over from the DVLA after the local office closures. Cant see how the gas bottle is fitted makes any difference as the cooker can be electric.

Hmmm :| but as you would need a gas safe certificate for the build,, an enclosed locker with an external vent would be a gas safe requirement anyway,, so i would personally do it for my own well being anyway :D ,

were does it say you need a gas safe cert ?

I spoke to my dads mate who is gas safe registered and he said all he would do is do a gas leak test and make sure gas drop out vents by the joints .

As far i can see dvla or my insurance dont require a cert for the gas

F,,k knows,,, but its in the beaurocracy somewhere believe me,,, apart from that,, wouldn t it be prudent to have a gas bottle inside a sealed compartment if inside the van,, with an external vent ,,? ,, all battery boxes have to have them as they produce gasses,, its a simple self preservation excersise to do it as standard dont you think ? Ever seen a propane explosion ?
