battery help please!

Postby RODAT » Sat Feb 15, 2014 1:13 pm

Think I asked a similar Q on here a while back, cant find it, so....
Im not used to these newer transits, only had mk2/mk3....please excuse the stupid Q's!
My diesel mk5 bus has 2 batteries , one left , one right of engine bay.....
Why 2 ? Is one for cranking and the other for everything else? If so, are they both the same ah etc,or is one more powerful?
How are they both kept charged? Split relay?Im assuming there is only one alternator?
I want to fit a split charge relay for a leisure battery to run led lighting and sink and shower pumps which battery do I connect it to n/s or o/s?
Thanks for your time

Not necessarily, twin batts was an option on the Mk5 and I think may have been standard on the autos. These are simply wired in parallel to double the battery power 8)
On these, both battery positives will go to the starter motor

Are the batteries [two under bonnet] in parallel on the 89 Mk 3?

Quite possibly John, but you need to look and see where the positive leads go, to confirm this :)

Not always twin batts for starting. On bros van one is a aux Batt for a tail lift..
