Great Idea for Onboard TV

Postby jonny round boy » Sat Jul 12, 2014 3:13 pm

I have been looking for a cheap TV that will run on 12V for my van conversion, but then I was in Maplin a few weeks ago and saw these. I'd not seen them before but decided to buy one on impulse. It picks up the TV signal, and then broadcasts it over Wi-Fi to your phone/tablet etc (you just download the free app to your device and control the receiver from it). It has a built in battery, or can be powered via USB.

I've used it a few times now on both my Android phone and my iPad, and it seems to work really well. I wondered how well it would work inside the van (being effectively a faraday cage) but you can just put it on the dash and it works fine, even through the heated screen. Reception is really very good. It even has a socket and adaptor so you can fit an external aerial if you want better reception. I think eventually I'll permanently mount this in the van with an external aerial, but you probably don't need it if you're in a reasonable signal area.

I have no connection to this or to Maplin, just wanted to share that it's available, and that it works!
