Split Charge Relay via Can Bus?

Hi,

Picked up my camper from the garage last week and the mechanic was quite critical of the leisure battery split charge relay being wired directly to the start battery.

He reckoned it should go via the Can Bus to avoid any problems.

Is that correct (I've not had any problems so far with the current set up)??

EDIT:

The relay kit (bought from a vehicle electrical suppliers) uses a solenoid which he also slated!

It should be okay, if it is done as per the instructions in the Ford BEMM manual, which is available on etis.ford.com

Trying to tie it in to the can bus could cause much more problems!!!

The guy who wired it up is pretty knowledgeable having converted many vans and he was happy.
