Mk6 Day Van Project

Postby DJ SMOG » Mon Aug 04, 2014 9:19 pm

Hi guys,
Been off the road for a year or so because im a naughty boy. Finally got my licence back so.....,

Picked up this blue beast in February, a bargain at £1000 id say.

Been using it as is as a workhorse as is for a few months, apart from couple of metal wetsuit hanging bars
Image

Anyway the end of summer is drawing near, and my work as jumping in cold rivers and climbing up rock faces tends to pretty slow come the colder months.
So ive decided its time to think about a plan for winter, and i have decided to see if i can blag a season working in Chamonix!

So to make things cheaper, plan is to live in the van until I can find some accom, or until i freeze to death which ever comes first. :)

First things first get it stripped out and tackle the rusty bits

Then to insulate the floor

And the walls and ceiling, with the help of our Gemma

Next up was getting to work building the bed/seating area.

Shes not allways smiling ;)

Scammed a nice table thingybob out of my dads old camper aswell

Need some holes/cupboards type dealys to acess the storage under the seats, but cant decide on how to do it at the moment. so theyre just fully boxed in for now. Any ideas welcome!

Cheers for now.

Actually my girlfreind RustWidow  , but shes flatterd to look so young haha.

Finally got on with doing some carpeting today, easier than i thought it was going to be.
Some bits are a tad messy but you cant tell in the grand scheme of things. Makes the van feel alot more comfortable to be in already!, Ran out of cvarpet fairly quickly though so going to have top put in another order to finish of the ceiling and bed. Was thinking of having grey so thees not TOO much blue.

Also got some cubby holes cut in my seats. Currently in the process of making some doors for them. Also realised last night im going to need some sort of lights under there so i can find things in the dark.

Carpet looks ace mate 8)

Noob question alert.
Is that just standard carpet ? I thought it would be thicker but that looks real thin.
What did you use to stick it on to the doors around the edges, the metal bits ?
Does this Rag smell like Chloroform to you ?

Its lining carpet from Mega Van Mats, (other brands are available) its quite thick but stretches when you heat it up with a hairdryer. It comes with spray glue stuff that you use to stick it on the metal and the panels.

I wish Punto443, far too busy at work!,

Managed to scam a worktop for nothing of my joiner friend,

So i built a little frame

These things are a great help in making everything sturdy, allowed me to use less framework than normal,Image

Had to take a breif break to walk the dog after she started attacking me

All done, next up is to design some sort of cupboard/draws front for it, not sure what yet, also a splashbacky thing at the back

Sunset was nice tonight too!Image

Ford Transit 280 SWB,,Year 2008,,2.2,, If it can,t be fixed/repaired/ with a 4 pound lump hammer then it must be an electrical problem.

Quick update, got round to carpeting the seat boxes
Image

Put some strips of wood on for the bed middle to sit on,
not the neatest of jobs because i did it in a rush after deciding last minute to run off to a festival in it.
Image
Image

But it does the business, and me and the missus had quite a comfortable kip in it.
I may redo the strips a bit nicer at some point but it will do for now!
