gas manifold - 4 way or more?

Postby Luke » Tue Sep 16, 2014 5:08 pm

looking to get a gas isolation manifold for my conversion

ive got the main fill to the tank then from the tank to the manifold

from the manifold ive got

1, water heater
2, fridge
3, external bbq point
4, grill/hobs

is there anything i'm missing :?: and is the grill/hob usually on 1 feed pipe :?:

i was going to get a 5 way just to be safe but i cant find one without building one up and they are a lot more expensive and look a bit messy

cheers :D

yeah i never used the oven when i had the big camper so i'm not fitting one - actually i did use it.......... for storing pans in

i'm thinking of this bullfinch external bbq point - definitely be a of more use to me than an oven

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Bullfinch-Gas ... 3a90a7cbc4

the only other thing i can think of is a gas air heater although we had one in the last van and it was next to useless :?

Better with a Eberspacher heater, you can use them whilst driving ;)

I rather have a good old fashioned campervan gas fire... doesn't use any electric and retains heat after use. Only problem is the flue hole to be cut in roof... although I have one at home which doesn't use a flue... not quite sure how it works.

My van only has a 3 way manifold.

1 - Oven/Hob/Grill
2 - Fridge
3 - Water Heater/Blown Air heating

thats another thing with mine - cutting holes in it  i'd like to find a fridge and water heater that dont need holes cutting in the side (and run on gas of course) i have thought about venting through the floor and roof but not too sure :?

I think you will be hard pushed to find a fridge which doesn't require side vents.

Maybe possible to extract the exhaust under the van but the heater exchanger on back will struggle even in cold weather without adequate ventilation.

If you could create a sealed space around the fridge and use a mounted fan like below to pull the heat away from the fins and have holes in floor with fans pushing air in and another for pulling air out with a pipe extended to the heighest point... might be possible...

However, I think the fridge will suffer poor performance and you will also be constantly drawing at minimum 0.15amp per fan, so looking at the minimum of 0.6amp constant draw with fridge operating. During winter theres only 6 good hours of sunlight from solar power, the other 18hrs will draw over 10amps... nothing serious if you live on hookup all winter but even with 100w solar panel, cloudy winter day will only produce about 0.5amp from solar power.

yeah - i might just say sod it and cut it open like a tin of beans  - i do plan to fit a pop top on day and once ive done that it'd be difficult to convert it back to a van- i was just thinking if i moved on it would be worth more as a van so i could rip out all the work ive done re-van it and sell it

i dont ever plan to sell it but.......... :D

I have seen some vans with the rear of fridge to rear doors... vents in the doors...doors can be replaced..... Mind you holes in side of van can be welded too...

Sometimes I wish I could have my fridge on the same side as door. I always have to have my door facing south cus my fridge is on the other side... not always the best in 30-35c :o

Although right now doesn't matter since this tropical storm is set to last for a few weeks... wtf is the sun?!

I only had a caravan gas fire & grill. There was a vent in the unit next to the fire & I always had the skylight open whenever I used it. The skylight was almost right above the fire. There was another floor vent beneath the gas bottle which was contained in a wooden box tightly enclosed when the back door was shut. The floor vents only led to under the floor, not right through to the outside of the van. It was done by Cheshire Caravans & they said it was safe like that cos any gas escaping would just exit through the floor & out of the van....

I never had any vents, or out in the side of the van & the odd times I stayed at official camp sites to use hook up electric I put the extension lead out under the back door. The rubber seal had squashed to one side at one point so there was just a little gap to fit the lead in & still shut the door, but sometimes I wondered if I might get electrocuted....dont think I ever was tho
