Battery wiring and fusing

Postby sand010 » Wed Nov 05, 2014 12:43 am

Hi guys got some questions about wiring a 12v battery bank in series...

Firstly, shoule i wire the batteries like in the image below. I have read that each battery should be individually fused.... the batteries are 110ah and the cable size is 25mm

Secondly am i right in thinking i connect the battery charger, shunt for the battery monitor and the DC DC charger to any terminal post or busbar?? providing its the correct polarity e.g. neg to neg and pos to pos.

thanks guys

Hi,

Are your batteries exactly the same, if they are different they will eat eachother. The best one will offer itself to the worst one.
Best is to have batterys of the same batch.
The lenght of the wiring should also be equal to another

You can ty all the power supplies in one spot, ofcourse + with +, - with -. Electricity will follow the easiest way

The shunt should be mounted on the negative as near as possible to the battery, the supplied manual will tell you that also.
In your drawing you have an extra negative lead, in this setup the battery monitor won't work, the shunt must be in the neg. circuit

Blizard,

yes they are all exactly the same battery so shouldn't have any problems there. i am going to ignore the fuses for each battery and just wire the same as you have in your diagram. will have a 100amp fuse going to and from the battery bank so should be more than safe.

The extra negative in my diagram do you mean the grounding point? or the negative busbar?

In your negative lead you should mount the shunt, anyway it had to be done with mine:

Victron suggests also a fuse in the positive lead
