My experience with solar panels

Postby JT23456 » Tue Nov 25, 2014 2:56 am

Turns out that in Spain etc you look for shade in the good times - so the 100 watt panel on my roof got shaded a lot - no - I'm not going to run a wire to it somewhere else.

Never shaded my panel once this summer passed in Portugal.... fook my english sounds weird now...

Mind you, the paint flaking off my roof might be a sign that it was hot.. but it was like that anyway.

I saw one guy park under shade and use mirrors to direct sunlight at his panel... was quite overly complicated really but affective. Sure i have a photo somewhere. Also see lots of people with fold up panels... I like to leave my van tbh so no good for me... looked at the prices of panels here and for a 100w panel costs almost €500... £80 in england.

Hi guys. I'm in Spain and want to put my little 50W solar panel on the roof but am not sure if I can walk on said roof. I have a 96 lwb high top which is fibreglass not metal. Will it hold 12 stone? (Me ans the panel together)

Best not to walk on it... My roof is fibreglass and I would hesitate to put a kyack up there without some sort of roof rack...

why do u need to walk on the roof to mount solar panel anyway? Find a high wall or borrow a ladder...

If the panel fits, couldn't you mount the panel in a window like rear door or sld?

Most people i see with unmounted panels tend to leave them by side of van or put them in the front window... If you do mount it, best to mount it on roof.. any other permenant fixture is pretty pointless as you would have to make sure panel is pointed at sun... harder than it sounds...
